MEMORIES AND OPPORTUNITIES!

Before we went to Vegas, did I tell you we've been to Vegas? VEGAS KID, who will have yet another name change next week when he returns to Disneyville, went to a party at Yates's on Leicester Square, he was already in London by the way so it wasn't such a long way to go. That really is insignificant but POSH HERMIT has just reminded me by way of her blog about Supertramp! Thanks!
Now many many moons ago I was in London with CUZMAN and we happened upon a bar which I'm pretty sure became Yates's at Leicester Square. It was a spit and sawdust sort of dive and we were both marginally underage, but not so you'd really notice but in the bar there was a live band on a really tiny badly lit stage and we had to pay 50p to get in which was unheard of, but we guessed that it was worth it because of the live band. Anyway the band were really good but because they had already started we missed the name of them. We attached ourselves to two girls and we asked them who they were! You might be streets ahead of me by now but you'll never guess what they said.....
THIS IS SUPERTRAMP AND THEY ARE GOING TO BE HUGE!!
So there! Strange thing is I never saw them live again and CUZMAN never really liked them but he did enjoy that concert.
Also around the same time/era he invited me to see some guy doing an acoustic set that was going to be the next Dylan and his name was ....Bruce Springsteen. I never saw him live again either but that was the coolest of all concerts at the time.
Meanwhile back in the home city a couple of years later I went to a concert by a band called Queen. Now they only had their first album out and they weren't very popular, I went along to see what the fuss was all about and to my joy the support band was Mott the Hoople and they were absolutely brilliant and in my opinion played Queen off the stage. Funny thing is yep I never saw Queen again either, though I did see Mott the Hoople and have relatively recently seen Ian Hunter who's voice is as good as ever and he still has a curly perm!
