MUSICAL MONDAY!!

Well Welcome indeed to MUSICAL MONDAY!
Yes the site is changing again and with the tag that I've just done and other peoples comments there needs to be more music on this site.
Hell it is one of my main interests after smoking, women and sex apparently so every Monday the posts will be music orientated OK.
As ever feel free to add, challenge, criticize and generally pull apart or praise if you like!
Music is a thing that affects every body different people will never agree will they. Hell I don't even agree with myself. Those 7 in the tag they've changed already, in fact they'd changed right after they'd been published. Over the weekend I visited ~d's site and I totally agreed with her choice and then Lee Ann and she had included a track that prompted me to go and find the vinyl version of it. Yes let's not forget I've never pretended to be anything other than a boring old fart, so the word vinyl may crop up from time to time and I don't make any apologies!

This particular post was prompted through boredom at work and a copy of
Mojo magazine.

THE 100 RECORDS THAT CHANGED THE WORLD!!

What you have to remember about these listy type things is that they are no way definitive! Brilliant for opening discussions though.
Those present at this period of boredom were across a wide age range 23 - 64 and only one female (45) First of all as we had to explain to the 23 year old it doesn't include downloads! It is made up of both singles and albums because reread the criteria for the list....Records can be CD's vinyl, EP, LP or Single they only have to have changed the world!
The original list in the mag was put together with the help of musicians and journalists and NOT the public.
Nobody got the top one, the number one right and only two people even agreed what the top one should have been but were a bit disappointed that their choice didn't feature in the list at all!!
So any way here's the top 10 and a few notables outside the top 10. If you want to know where your favourites were then just ask and I will endeavour to tell you.

  • 10. SEX PISTOLS - GOD SAVE THE QUEEN
  • 9. RAY CHARLES - WHAT I'D SAY
  • 8. VARIOUS - ANTHOLOGY OF AMERICAN FOLK MUSIC
  • 7. THE VELVET UNDERGROUND AND NICO - THE VELVET UNDERGROUND
  • 6. ROBERT JOHNSON - KING OF THE DELTA BLUES SINGERS
  • 5. KRAFTWERK - AUTOBAHN
  • 4. BOB DYLAN - THE FREEWHEELIN' BOB DYLAN
  • 3. ELVIS PESLEY - HEARTBREAK HOTEL
  • 2. THE BEATLES - I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND
  • 1. LITTLE RICHARD - TUTTI FRUTTI

Ok so there's the Top 10. Do you agree with it? Any one of them? No I'm not sure I do either but this is just the begining of it. The foundation for future discussions.....

Some oddities in the list that need noting though I think.

Only Pink Floyd entry Arnold Layne at 56, which proper upset our 23 y.o. because he thought Dark Side of the Moon would be in the top 5.

No Rock around the Clock at all.

Chic - Good Times did better than Joni Mitchell - Blue

Number 100 was Gnarls Barkley - Crazy

Bruce Springsteen's only entry - Born to Run was number 72

Rolling Stone magazine just had this great 'pull out' of the umm, top (40?) songs that changed the world, and like why. Not in changing the world order, but in (uhh) year...chronological order.
I will find a snippet and get back to you with it.

Change is good. I'm getting bored with the status quo over at my blog too... I'm debating closing shop all together... but I'd give fair warning if that were the case... just a thought right now.

I like the idea of musical Monday.

Good plan, my friend ;)

The readers at Rolling Stone don't know shit about music!
For their top 100 guitatists they did not have Ted Nugent or Django Rinehart!

I saw this list, let me say this....
I am old enough to remember it all!
The #1 Spot should be "Hound Dog" Elvis's version.
#2 Maybe "Tutti-Fruity"
#3 Definately " Want To Hold Your Hand"!
The rest?...Debatable!
Great Post though Simon!
