"One mans terrorist, is another mans freedom fighter"
Ok it was said by George Galloway about a week ago but does anyone know exactly where this quote originated? I've Googled it of course but the best I've got to was from the Spanish Civil War c.1938 although it was also said by Margaret Thatcher, I'm sure GG would be suitably impressed! Though there's a lot of urban legend regarding it so we may never know.
Here's a news report that I quite like :
Bus passengers were shocked to be asked if any of them knew the way because the driver hadn't a clue.
They laughed when a supervisor asked if any of the 30 on board could give directions, reports the Mirror.
But then he added: "It will really help you as your driver is Polish, doesn't speak much English and he doesn't know the route."
Travel firm Fraser Eagle was running a coach replacement service for Virgin Trains between Birmingham and Rugby because of track maintenance.
One woman volunteered to sit by the driver and give him directions throughout the 20-mile journey.
Passengers gave her a round of applause when the bus arrived in time for them to make their rail connections.
Stephen Beech, 38, said: "It was lucky there were a couple of local people on the bus and one of them gave the driver directions as he clearly didn't have a clue."
A Virgin Trains spokesman said: "They are investigating. We would expect the driver to know the route he is supposed to drive."
Put my foot in it a bit this afternoon, nothing unusual about that, leaving Grambo's a little earlier Mainman was heard to say, "I'll be back later to photograph the Bible!" No I haven't found religion, I didn't even know it was lost!, I was photographing the Family page of the old old Family Bible because it was easier than photocopying it! Have you seen the size of the thing, it's huge! For GRANDAD CUZ who is doing a Family Tree, well he's planted the seed so to speak.
BORING OLD FART BIT
Played my newest acquired CD through today but here's a funny thing, the last 2 cd's acquired by WILKO NEWS are both double CDs and both by the same group. The most significant difference is that one was originally issued in 1972, a vinyl copy having been acquired by Mainman the week it was released and the other in 2006! The band themselves have always been the bone of contention between staff members because Mainman and WKD could never agree on who was the best vocalist! Now here's a strange(r) thing.....Despite WKD favouring A.N. Other vocallist, she was quick enough snaffling the 2006 CD away in to her 'going to work' collection!
Ok I suppose I better tell you the albums! Rapture of the Deep, Deep Purple's latest offering. The return of Ian Gillan as lead man, no longer such a screamer but still. Second CD is partly live and recorded at the Hard Rock Cafe in London 2005, overall the quality of this CD is superb and WKD has to admit that Ian Gillan really isn't that bad.
Oh the one I was left with - Deep Purple, of course you already guessed that, Made In Japan. Wow, without the scratches and boy can he scream on that. At one time the most played vinyl that I had, now remastered and with the encores on the second CD!! Surely still one of the very bestest live albums ever.....only 34 years old!!
