That may be better known as the punchline to a link about cannibals in a music radio programme many moons ago but last night at the Summer Pops tent in LIVERPOOL it was the scottish super group, SIMPLE MINDS' Second encore and the final number after 2 hours of pseudo stadium rock lets all do EIGHTIES good rocking 'stuff'.
'Wkd' and yours truly 'Mainman' don't get let out very often and that could be told by the fact we definitely spent more time watching the audience! Mostly for me it was "Well at least I'm not the oldest/baldest/fattest" not even close!!
From the first note when the sell out crowd rose to their feet until two hours later when most slumped back in to the seats the whole package was absolutely electric. A few new ones but for the most part just a greatest hits collection performed superbly by Kerr and gang.
Greatest hits that within one bar the whole crowd had their hands in the air and were singing along at the top of their voices.
Such is the strength of this band that apart from the opening bits of all their hits they really don't need to do anything! The crowd know all the words, all the singalong bits and all the "HEY HEY HEY's" of which there are a lot as anyone who has sung a long with SIMPLE MINDS knows!!
"HEY HEY HEY"
It was their third visit to Summer Pops in Liverpool and I'm pretty sure it won't be their last.
"HEY HEY HEY HEY DON'T YOU FORGET ABOUT US"
The band enjoyed it, the crowd enjoyed it and we enjoyed it. Sounds like a result!!
More importantly WKD enjoyed it as her birthday present and it's great when you can enjoy somebody else's birthday present!
